Treatment of deficiency in the body with microsurgery - Prof. Dr. Murat Topalan

Free tissue transfer by microsurgery is a very special surgical intervention performed in accident, cancer surgery, radiotherapy burns, excessive skin strains due to burn marks and large tissue losses that occur during the treatment of congenital anomalies which expose the structures of vital importance. Some cases where microvascular free tissue transfer is applied are:

  • Wounds and tissue losses that cannot be closed directly by stitching
  • Wounds that cannot heal on their own
  • When it is not possible to shift the soft tissues around the tissue loss to the tissue loss area
  • When multiple tissues are missing, such as skin, soft tissue, muscle, or bone
  • Breast reconstruction after breast cancer
  • Restoring the integrity of the region after head and neck cancers and tumors of the jaw bone

Microsurgery may not be the first method of choice to repair existing tissue loss that may occur during treatment. However, it is a savior option when other methods are not possible.
