HOW IS EAR AESTHETIC SURGERY DONE?

Ears, whose main functions are hearing, can come across us in unusual ways. This makes one feel unhappy. Many deformities due to congenital or acquired reasons may require ear aesthetic surgery. The most common complaints are the external ear deformations, which is called the prominent ear, when the ears are folded forward. Congenital complete or partial absence of the ear, extra cartilage protrusions around the ear, shrunken ear like crumpled paper, sharp ears or partial or complete loss of the ear as a result of an accident are among the complaints that may occur. Prominent ear deformity is the most often encountered one in the society.

WHICH AGES ARE MORE SUITABLE FOR THE PROMINENT EAR AESTHETICS?

The situation is called a prominent ear among the people and the ears appear excessively large when viewed from the front, causing serious discomfort to people of all ages. The ears, which are developed until the age of 6,are recommended to do aesthetics before primary school. Thus, the treatment and correction are provided without psychological trauma. In our country, the age range of patients applying to the physician with this complaint is mostly 18 years and older.

WHAT METHOD IS USED IN EAR AESTHETIC SURGERY?

While ear aesthetics are performed under general anesthesia in young ages, it can be performed under local anesthesia in adult ages by using sedative drugs. If the patient who will undergo an approximately 1.5 hours of surgery is anxious or young, it will be more appropriate to use general anesthesia. Ear aesthetics is usually done by removing a piece of spindle-shaped skin from behind the auricle and creating normal anatomical cartilage folds. The angle between the ear and the head is narrowed. The skin on the back of the ear is repaired with aesthetic stitching and the ear surgery is completed. Patients who have surgery under local anesthesia can go home on the same day.
